Olympic Gold Medal or Last Place for the 2012 Logo

London 2012It's hard to say whether the 2012 logo has been an unmitigated disaster or tremendous success. If the aim was to generate interest in the games and get people talking, there is no doubt that they've done a good job. However, the logo has met harsh criticism from the start being dubbed everything from an 'Olympic low-go!' to 'a scribble'.

Design company, Wolff Olins, are responsible for the design of the £400,000 logo, along with an equally controversial video, reported to have caused epiliptic fits in a number of viewers. They were reportedly assigned the project without even having to submit design ideas to the olympic committee.

London 2012In reaction to public outrage, the BBC launched a campaign for the public to submit their own logo ideas. One the simplest, in my opinion, would have made a pretty acceptable logo at no cost, shown right.
